Black Sheep Beer

Of the beers that I have tasted in the Dales I would say that this is the winner thus far.

www.blacksheepbrewery.com also www.blacksheep.co.uk , this is the offical black sheep brewery website.

Black Sheep is my favorvite Ale and is brewed in a town called Masham. Situated within the Dales. You can find black sheep Ale throughout the dales. It is a must at the end of a hard day's walking in the dales.

Market Day

Market Town Great and small.

Market tpowns are a particular feature of the dales and they are worth detailed exploration to discover some of the different delights.

Hawes and Upper Swaledale

Hawes is said to be the highest market town in England. Alive with bustle and activity. Hawes has a range of shops and craft galleries as well as an award winning Dales Countryside Museum and the Wensleydale Creamery Vistor Centre.

Market Day: Tuesday

Leyburn, Wensleydale
Leyburn lives up to its name 'A town of all seasons'. Attractions include its own cinema, a Teapottery, Violin Makers, a fine arts and an antique auction house, and an interesting selection of shops galleries.

Market Day: Friday

Reeth, Swaledale
Strategically sited at the junction with Akengarthdale, Reeth has an expansive village green the focal point of many trational events. The Swaledale Folk Museum and a variety of Craft workshops and tea rooms make Reeth an excellent stopping off point.

Market Day: Friday

Richmond, Swaledale

Richmond boasts a vast cobbled market place and the massive remains of Richmond Castle. Home of the oldest Georgian Theatre, Richmond also has three museums and a varitey of shops and tearooms.

Free Range Eggs

You don't get better than this. The next farm sells free range organic (a much overused term in this country) eggs. They sell for 2 pounds a dozen. Not cheap by super market standards but well worth the poached egg.

If you are ever driving between Thwaite and Muker in the Yorkshire Dales then the house is just out of Thwaite between the 2 downs and well sign posted. The sale works on an honesty box system (you put money in and no one is there to check whether you have or not, this is where the honesty bit comes in).

The eggs are advertised as free range. The small problem with this would appear to be that one of the hens as of this morning has become a feathered tire warmer. A little to free range. Lets hope the rest are safe thus insuring my Sunday morning poached egg.

Escondido.co.nz

I have just updated my Mum's website for her holiday home in Paihia, New Zealand.

Frustratingly I was trying to use rapid weaver and modify the CSS style to something that I liked. However my lack of knowledge of CSS proved to be to great and thus this did not work. I have not given up learning about the CSS and will learn it in due course.

I still have another site to complete which is another Holiday home in the Yorkshire Dales. In a place called Thwaite. Anyway I went to plan B and used iWeb instead. This is a great little program.

Check out the site at www.escondido.co.nz

Land Rover

For the last month I have had the pleasure of driving a Land Rover Discovery TVD6 SE. This vehicle is owned by the in laws as is a well used wagon. The car is the size of a small tank, which is not all bad. But would not be great for an inner city vehicle. This is a great Machine for getting up and down the yorkshire dales.

If you are keen to check them out log on to www.landrover.com. One of the best features of this car and that fact that I am driving in in a foriegn country is the GPS and the Royal Mail post code system, brilliant.

You just plug in your post code or address into the GPS and it sorts out the where you are going. The thing even talks to you as you drive. It is so easy to follow. This may be old school if you have a new car or live in the US but coming from New Zealand and having never owned a car newer than at least 10 years old. It is a huge joy.

One thing that I can not say is that the fuel consumption is NOT great. 77 pounds was to fill the tank. $221 NZD is not a great price to fill up any car.

Why?

I originally started this blog with the intention of learning about blogging and posting things that interest me. This was a short lived exercise. Thus the second attempt has been a little morre focused.

I am going to write about my small familes 5 months of travel to England and the area surrounding where we will be living, Swaledale. I hope to make a few visits to various pubs, sites and places of interest and report on them.

To sponsor my efforts and obtain enough funds to buy the odd beer or two I intend to add a Paypal donate button and google adsense.

Well here hoping all goes well, Thanks for visiting
